I have calendars, for instance my Facebook calendar, with lot of events. These events I will like to show in my family calendar so my family can see when I participate in these events. This is quite cumbersome to manage as it is now - you will have to add them individually to you family calendar. If you remember to do so, the wife will be happy - but you will end up with duplicates of the events. This could be done as a merge of calendars - for example let your Facebook calendar automatically merge in to your family calendar. And/or you could approach this, by making it possible to chose more than one calendar for the event - but only let one event show in your calendar.
