When WidgetCal app does not display events but holidays and birthdays, here is the fix:
(1) Reinstall WidgetCal and Awesome Calendar Lite (WidgetCal shows its contents). (2) Setup Awesome Calendar Lite. (3) Add WidgetCal to Home Screen. (4) Click on WidgetCal to see calendar events.
