I already do this by making a separate calendar for the groupings I want. This also allows me to turn off all other calendars and just look at one to quickly see what's going on for that type of event. But I can see the value of adding color coding to even further distinguish them.

The iPhone iOS Calendar & Awesome Calendar is capable of handling multiple calendars - i.e.Work, Home, Personal etc. You can share any calendar with anyone that has an email address that also has the same calendar app. Create the Calendar you want to share in iPhone IOS Calendar first by Choosing "Calender" within the iOS Calendar app. Then Choose Edit. Select "add a calendar". Once a calendar is added (or if you just want to share the calendar you already have) select that calendar, and under "shared with" choose "add person". Then choose your husband's email address from your contact list (or whomever you want to share it with). They will get an email asking if they want to share. Once they accept, you are both able to see the same calendar in both the iPhone iOS calendar and Awesome Calendar because they sync with each other. My husband & I have enjoyed this feature for years! Good luck!

Or give us the option to have the current day circled or colored to match theme. It's important that the current day stand out to the user.

The iPhone ios7 calendar has a yearly view that allows us to see the dates in relation to the days of the week. It also allows us to navigate to a future date more quickly than flipping the page of each month. It's the only good thing about that calendar so maybe you can use that as a model.
Absolutely! I tried to copy and paste a photo into an event and did not work. Would love this feature! It would be so useful to add photo information to a specific event. A place to see everything about the event in one place.
